Description

In the mid 19th century, Swedish immigrants began to settle in the area now known as Andersonville.  Brick and framed dwellings characterize this neighborhood's housing along with greystones and large single family homes.  Also noteworthy are the long tree-lined streets found throughout Andersonville.  Clark Street offers residents a variety of restaurants, coffee shops and bookstores.  The Swedish American Museum, Ann Sathers Restaurant and the Swedish Bakery are located in Andersonville.

Andersonville is a neighborhood within Edgewater.  Andersonville neighborhoods include Lakewood/Balmoral and is located east of Clark Street and is just north of Foster.

The Swedish tradition of celebrating the summer solstice has grown into an annual festival called Midsommarfest, which continues to be one of Chicago's most popular and largely attended festivals.
